The Marvel Cinematic Universe experienced some pandemic-related delays in 2020 and 2021, but Phase 4 of the MCU is currently full steam ahead and is already preparing to set up long-term antagonists who will likely live into Phase 5.

While Avengers: Endgame and the conclusion of The Infinity Saga established a high standard for what came next, the MCU has continuously found fresh ways to meet that standard.

Aside from numerous planned MCU films, the release of the MCU’s Disney+ TV programs has served to offer a new layer to the franchise at the same time as the 2021 releases appeared to be aimed to help address Disney and Marvel’s lengthy history of poor representation.

While the pandemic led the MCU to limit Black Widow’s theatrical release to streaming exclusively, the studio has since reverted to full theatrical releases with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Despite the return to cinemas, Marvel is still dealing with long-standing delays owing to pandemic-related production challenges, and in October 2021. They were forced to push back the release dates for five MCU films scheduled for release in 2022 and 2023.

These multiple delays have thrown off the planned MCU release schedule, with WandaVision becoming the first chapter of Phase 4 to be released. However, this helped to solidify the importance of the Disney+ TV programs in carrying on the MCU. Consumers have flocked to them to help fill in the gaps between the movies.

But also Natalie and Portman as Jane Foster. Portman will portray the Mighty Thor in the forthcoming sequel, which will take place before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and will include members of the Guardians crew.

In addition, Christian Bale will play Gorr the God Butcher, and Russell Crowe will play Zeus in the Thor sequel. The film won’t be released until July 8, 2022, however, filming has already finished due to numerous pandemic-related delays.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been announced. If the timetable holds, it will be the MCU’s 30th feature. When Black Panther was released, it shattered a lot of box office records. The fact that it was the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars made a sequel unavoidable.

Ryan Coogler is returning to write and film Black Panther 2 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is supposed to delve further into Wakandan culture as returning characters share the focus. Following Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death from colon cancer in August 2020.

As Marvel has wisely decided not to remake T’Challa, the sequel will now focus on other characters in Wakanda such as Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, and Danai Gurira’s Okoye. Martin Freeman will also resume his role as Everett K. Ross.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is occurring. But it will be considerably later than planned. James Gunn was allegedly planned to begin production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in early 2019 with a late-2020 release date aimed shortly after delivering his script draft to Marvel.

However, due to Disney sacking Gunn and then rehiring him a short time later, the development of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was delayed. Gunn was then set to direct The Suicide Squad for DC Films, which he did before going on to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The MCU sequel will now be released on May 5, 2023. Apart from it. All of the original cast members are anticipated to return, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Pom Klementieff.

The blade is one of the MCU’s more surprising newcomers. Wesley Snipes, who previously played Blade, will not reprise his role. Instead, Mahershala Ali, a two-time Academy Award winner, has been cast as Blade in the MCU title.

Despite Ali’s involvement, Blade is slated to be a Phase 5 film, which means it won’t be released until late 2023 or early 2024 at the earliest. Marvel, on the other hand, has a penchant for introducing new characters before they receive their first solo adventures. While some speculated that Blade would make his debut appearance in the Moon Knight TV series.

In the Eternals post-credits sequence, he appeared sooner than expected, with Mahershala Ali’s voice speaking to Dane Whitman’s Black Knight as Blade. The script is being written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen), however, there is no director engaged at this time.

The MCU will also get an X-Men film, akin to the Fantastic Four. However, it appears that the X-Men film will be second in line to Marvel’s First Family. Marvel Studios teased the X-Men by calling them “mutants.” Details on the X-Men and mutants in the MCU may not be released for some time.

But it’s a project that many die-hard fans have been anticipating since Disney purchased Fox assets. In any case, X-Men will most certainly be released by the time MCU Phase 5 hits cinemas and streaming services. Notably, Professor X’s presence in Doctor Strange 2 proves that the X-Men exist in some manner within the MCU.

While plans for an X-Force picture appear to have perished with Disney’s acquisition of Fox, former Disney CEO Bob Iger previously stated that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool franchise will continue at Marvel Studios.

Reynolds revealed Deadpool 3 was in the works in December 2019. Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux were working on the script, and it was revealed that the film will at least keep its R-rating inside the existing MCU world.

The third installment, however, will not begin filming until late 2022 at the earliest, so fans will have to wait a little longer to see it.

Reynolds did, however, reprise his role as Wade Wilson with Taika Waititi’s Korg for a Free Guy marketing campaign, allowing the figure to interact with a well-known MCU character.

While some may have assumed that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be Tom Holland’s final solo appearance as the eponymous web-slinger. This appears not to be the case. Producer Amy Pascal has revealed that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in the MCU for a second trilogy of Spider-Man films.

There is no known narrative information or a release date at this time. However, given the shift between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Sony Spider-Man Villain Universe. The environment will very certainly have changed by the time Spider-Man 4 is released.

One feature that is likely to be incorporated in the future movie is the inclusion of extra heroes with the “spider” mantle other than Peter Parker himself.

Thunderbolts – TBA

Thunderbolts - TBA
Upcoming Marvel Movies List

The Thunderbolts team-up from Marvel Comics has some of the franchise’s most infamous villains and morally ambiguous heroes. It might be the crossover event that makes Phase 5 of the MCU really exceptional. Details for the impending MCU film are few.

But given Thunderbolts’ comic book beginnings, the cast might include Yelena Belova, John Walker/US Agent, Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Baron Zemo, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Emil Blonsky/Abomination, and Contessa Valentina de Fontaine.

Given the many variations of the Thunderbolts in Marvel Comics, the film might also include Jack Duquesne/Swordsman, Trish Walker/Hellcat, Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Luke Cage, Deadpool. Possibly a recast version of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross/Red Hulk.

Although the release date for Thunderbolts has yet to be determined. Excitement is strong for what is effectively Marvel’s Suicide Squad — criminals fighting for an evil government but with potential redemption arcs.

Jake Schreier, the mind behind the Sundance award-winning Robot & Frank and the FX smash hit comedy Dave, will helm Thunderbolts. Meanwhile, Thunderbolts will be produced by Marvel Studios President Jon Feige, with Black Widow’s Eric Pearson writing the script.

After looking through the list I must say I am underwhelmed, sure there are movies I will go and see like thor love and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but the rest will need to get awesome reviews before I go and see them.  I am mostly underwhelmed because it looks like the same old stories with the same plot line and no originality. Anyhow BZ for writing this list of coming Marvel movies.

  2. Thank you so much for providing such an informative update on upcoming popcorn flicks. This, I believe, will be a call to the True Believers. Marvel has established itself as a leading cinematic universe thanks to its superheroes.

It could be a scientific fact that everyone’s attention seems to be drawn to Marvel Studios. Marvel fans can emotionally connect with the series, making them feel connected to the superheroes. Thor:  Love and Thunder are definitely on my list of films to go and see.

  3. This is pretty exciting.  We have enjoyed all of the Marvel movies, but it looks like some of our favorites are going to have a sequel.  Since the first Thor movie, every one has been great and Thor’s appearance in other Marvel films has been a draw for us.  Love and Thunder looks great.  We are also looking forward to the new Black Panther this fall.  I hope that another Shang-Chi is in the works.  You have given us something to look forward to.

  4. Several new movie releases were delayed because of the global pandemic, so it is good to find that there are so many new releases are planned by Marvel for 200 and 2023. Our family has enjoyed the Thor movies, so Love and Thor is bound to be on the list of must-watch movies in our family. Russel Crowe is one of my favourite actors, so it is great to see he will be playing Zeus in Love and Thor.

And yes, with the success of Black Panther, it is not surprising to see a sequel. Lots to look forward to in the Marvel movie world.

  5. Hi thanks for such an interesting article. I love movies so reading about movies coming out soon is very exciting. However I’m not much a Marvel fan.
