The Elder Wand is the most powerful wand in the Harry Potter universe, and everyone who has used it is listed here. Because of the fanaticism around the novels and subsequent film adaptations, J.K. Rowling’s book series has become one of the most successful franchises in history.

The original Harry Potter film franchise comprises of eight films produced between 2001 and 2011. Warner Bros. is still producing new films centered in this universe, with the Fantastic Beasts series taking place several decades before Harry Potter’s plot.

The Elder Wand is a defining feature of the whole franchise. Legend has it that the Deathstick got its name. The Peverell brothers outwitted Death and received whatever present they could think of. Death crafted the Elder Wand in response to the eldest brother’s request for the most powerful wand ever produced.

The Resurrection Stone was given to the second brother, while the Cloak of Invisibility was given to the youngest brother. The Deathly Hallows are made up of these three items.

While not all wands are connected to their respective owners, only the Elder Wand’s proper possessor may completely master it.

The mythical nature of the Elder Wand’s abilities made it a sought-after object for power-hungry wizards early in its existence. This initially led to the assumption that in order to master the Elder Wand, a wizard must slay the present possessor.

Instead, the Elder Wand may be transmitted from one wizard to another by simply disarming it. With a centuries-long history, several wizards have been known to be the possessor of the Elder Wand.

14. Antioch Peverell

Antioch Peverell is Elder Wand’s first master. While tradition has it that Death constructed the mighty wand for him, other wizards, notably Albus Dumbledore, thought Antioch built it himself. The pure-blood wizard’s time with the Elder Wand swiftly led to his killing of someone he got into a quarrel with.

Antioch became intoxicated in celebration of his victory and propagated the legend that the Elder Wand was fashioned by Death itself. This bragging prompted another wizard to murder Antioch in his sleep in order to obtain the Elder Wand for himself, but the identity of the killer is unknown.

13. Emeric The Evil

Instead, after learning about the powers of Horcruxes, he authored the book “Magick Moste Evile” (the book that taught Voldemort about Horcruxes) and filled it with evil magic material. Godelot perished in the Middle Ages after being kept in a cellar by the Elder Wand’s new possessor.

10. Hereward

After a fight with Draco, Harry gripped Draco’s wand from his grasp, he became the possessor of the Elder Wand. Even if this was not the Elder Wand, Draco’s disarming in any way indicated that control of the Elder Wand had now covertly gone to Harry.

However, Harry was unaware of what had occurred until his final confrontation with Voldemort at Hogwarts. Voldemort’s attempt to cast the Killing Curse on Harry backfired and killed him instead, thanks to the wand’s devotion to Harry.

Harry used the Elder Wand to fix his original wand, allowing him to avoid utilizing the lethal wand. He then splits the Elder Wand in half, removing its power and thereby terminating the line.

The Elder Wand’s Powers Explained

The Elder Wand’s Powers Explained
Elder Wand Ownership

The Elder Wand is characterized as the “most powerful wand in existence” in the Harry Potter books – here’s what that implies. The wand is composed of elder tree wood with the hair of a Thestral’s tail as the core.

Thestral hair core is considered to be extremely difficult to control and extremely unfortunate. It works for the Elder Wand, which is completely devoted to its wielder. The Elder Wand can only be obtained by using the disarming charm (Expelliarmus! ), stealing it, or removing it from the wizard’s hands.

The legendary Deathly Hallow isn’t given a list of abilities, yet it has been demonstrated to execute extraordinary deeds. It’s supposed to be capable of doing the most difficult magic, even if the user isn’t all that skilled. It can also repair wands, as Harry does in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

But it doesn’t mean the Elder Wand can accomplish anything. For example, it couldn’t un-frighten the pupils during Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets while in Dumbledore’s custody.

It couldn’t also heal Dumbledore’s withered hand or negate Voldemort’s potion in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. So, while the Elder Wand is a powerful instrument of death and devastation, it is not without restrictions.

Harry Potter Canon Is Really The Journey Of The Elder Wand

Harry Potter Canon Is Really The Journey Of The Elder Wand

When seen as a whole, the Harry Potter series might be regarded as a voyage of the Elder Wand and the Deathly Hallows. Dumbledore possessed the Elder Wand from the start of the book series. He also held the second Deathly Hallows component, the invisibility cloak, which he kept until when Harry arrived at Hogwarts.

The ultimate Deathly Hallow was obtained by the Hogwarts headmaster when he obtained Voldemort’s Horcrux ring, which contained the resurrection stone. Dumbledore knew, or assumed, from the start that Harry’s only chance of survival would be to hold all three Hallows.

Despite the fact that the Elder Wand was first presented in the final book, Dumbledore always planned for it to be passed down to Harry. While it took some time, the Harry Potter canon rests on Harry obtaining the Elder Wand and becoming the total master of death.

Gellert Grindelwald wields the Elder Wand in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Anyone who has read the Harry Potter series is aware that Dumbledore beats Grindelwald in a legendary battle and therefore obtains the tool.

The end of Fantastic Beasts 3 featured a minor skirmish between the two, but not the terrible fight that folklore tells of. Grindelwald is still wielding the Elder Wand at the end of the film. The Fantastic Beasts film series was meant to consist of five installments. Having said that, Fantastic Beasts 4 may not materialize.

A fourth installment may not materialize because of the terrible critical reaction to The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore. Furthermore, director David Yates is working on another project, and no announcement for Fantastic Beasts 4 has been made.

This is in addition to the various scandals involving Johnny Depp and Ezra Miller. As a result, the fabled battle between Grindelwald and Dumbledore may not be seen. The Fantastic Beasts franchise has been tainted by the concentration on Dumbledore rather than Newt, the convoluted narrative.

  1. The Elder Wand is one of the most powerful magical objects in the Harry Potter universe. It is said to be unbeatable, and its owner is feared by many. However, the wand has changed hands many times, each owner becoming more ruthless than the last. Lord Voldemort was the final owner of the wand before Harry Potter and was by far the evilest wizard to ever wield its power. The wand brought nothing but misery and death to those who possessed it, and it is perhaps best that Harry was able to destroy it in the end.

  2. I’ve watched Harry Potter all my life and one thing i learned is that one element that characterizes the entire franchise is the Elder Wand.

Also, simply disarming the Elder Wand will let it to be passed from one wizard to another.

It is perhaps for the best that Harry was able to destroy the wand in the end because it only served to bring suffering and death to those who had it.

  3. Interesting read. I was definitely glad to see the demise of the elder wand, but unfortunately I think that is what brought the conclusion of the Harry Potter saga to the end which was disappointing for a lot of fans.

But I suppose all good things do eventually need to come to an end.

  4. Fascinating read about the Elder wand and all the wizards that possessed it. Although the owners of the elder wand were all ruthless and cruel, Lord Voldemort must have been the epitomy of evil, and I used to fear what he would do next. He tried endlessly to destroy Harry Potter, but thank goodness Harry managed to destroy the wand at the end.

I do think that with the Elder wand destroyed, it also meant the end of the Harry Potter saga. But who knows, there is hope that Harry Potter fans might yet be surprised with a continuation.
