During his tenure at Hogwarts, Harry Potter met several Defense Against Dark Arts Teachers. Regardless of their differences, none of them lasted longer than a year.
Defense Against the Dark Arts is one of the core subjects that Hogwarts students are required to take for the whole of the Harry Potter series. The fact that the class is taught by a revolving cast of professors adds an additional layer of intrigue to the subject matter.
The Harry Potter series has achieved its final level of success thanks to the Wizarding World’s production of the Fantastic Beasts spinoff movie and the long-awaited computer game Hogwarts Legacy.
The course in question, which was also known as D.A.D.A., instructed pupils on how to protect themselves against several types of black magic, such as curses, jinxes, and hexes. The curses were not confined to the classroom; rather, it looked as if the teaching job at DADA was itself cursed. During Harry’s tenure at Hogwarts, not a single member of the D.A.D.A. faculty stayed in their position for more than a year.
Students at Hogwarts heard rumors that their Defense Against the Dark Arts class was cursed, but it was subsequently established that the post of the cursed Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor at Harry Potter schools had in fact been cursed by Voldemort himself.
Voldemort submitted not one but two applications to be a teacher in the subject. Dumbledore explains in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” that following that event, Voldemort placed a curse on the post,
“Because of this curse, there were seven different people teaching D.A.D.A. classes at Hogwarts during the period of the seven Harry Potter novels and the eight movies. They each had their own unique set of skills, as well as their own secrets, and the seven of them had departed the job for a variety of different reasons.
The following is a list of all of the D.A.D.A. professors that appear in the Harry Potter book and movie franchise, along with an explanation of how the curse affected each of them.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: Quirinus Quirrell

Quirrell comes up at number one on the list of Harry Potter professors for Defense Against the Dark Arts. At first impression, Lecturer Quirinus Quirrell, who later became known as Voldemort, seemed to be a shivering wreck of a man. Quirrell was Harry Potter’s very first D.A.D.A. professor.
It was said that he had a frightening run-in with some vampires when he was performing research outside of Hogwarts, which would explain why he was so afraid all the time.
Quirrell covered the fact that Voldemort had attached himself to his body and was living on the back of his head, hidden under a turban, by adopting the persona of a fearful and submissive persona in order to deceive others.
The whole school year, Quirrell did Voldemort’s bidding by looking for the Philosopher’s Stone and sustaining both himself and Voldemort by consuming the blood of unicorns in order to stay alive.
He made an attempt to murder Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but the sacrifice and protection spell cast by Lily Potter caused him to dissolve at Harry’s touch instead.
He was the only one of Harry’s D.A.D.A. instructors to pass away in his role. Quirrell was portrayed on screen by actor Ian Hart, while the incarnation of Voldemort that sprang from Quirrell’s mind was brought to life by Richard Bremmer.
When Ian Hart portrayed Denis Goldberg in the 2020 film Escape From Pretoria, he once again appeared on screen with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), who played the role of Ron Weasley. Ralph Fiennes took up the role of Voldemort when Richard Bremmer left the production; however, Richard Bremmer did go on to make an appearance in Les Misérables as a member of the ensemble cast.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Gilderoy Lockhart

The next instructor on the schedule for Defense Against the Dark Arts classes for Harry Potter is Lockhart. During Harry’s second year at the D.A.D.A., Gilderoy Lockhart served as the instructor. Hogwarts professor Gilderoy Lockhart was as self-absorbed as they come and had quite an impressive CV.
He was awarded the Order of Merlin in the Third Class, is an Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and is a five-time recipient of the Most Charming Smile award given out by Witch Weekly.
Lockhart did not really carry out any of his illustrious exploits, despite the fact that he had written a large number of novels about them and received a great deal of praise for doing so.
He did nothing more than take credit for the accomplishments of other witches and wizards before manipulating their memory using Memory Charms. In a cruel twist of fate, Voldemort managed to wipe out his own memory while attempting to do the same to Harry and Ron.
In the book and movie Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, he tried to cast a spell using Ron’s broken wand, but it failed, and he was sentenced to spend the remainder of his life in St. Mungo’s Hospital as a result.
According to J.K. Rowling, one of the reasons why Dumbledore employed someone who was so stupid in the first place was to reveal the fallacies that Lockhart had been using. Renowned actor Kenneth Branagh portrays the role of Gilderoy Lockhart in the series.
Kenneth Branagh, who is most recognized for his performances in Shakespearean tragedies, made his film debut in Chariots of Fire in an uncredited role as a Cambridge student. Since then, Branagh has starred in a variety of films, ranging from the leading part in Hamlet to a supporting one in My Week With Marilyn as Sir Laurence Olivier.
Remus Lupin in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Remus Lupin, a popular favorite, was the next person on the list of professors for Harry Potter’s Defense Against the Dark Arts class. After one of his D.A.D.A. professors attempted to murder him and another attempted to wipe his memory, Harry needed a teacher who was both kind and knowledgeable.
That’s exactly what he got out of Remus Lupin. When Lupin was a professor, he provided his pupils with hands-on training in combating the Dark Arts by putting them in situations where they faced evil monsters like Boggarts in a safe atmosphere.
He was one of James Potter’s closest friends and a member of the Marauders, and he instructed Harry on how to perfect the Patronus Charm. His role as a guide to Harry Potter was where he really excelled.
In “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” Lupin is expelled from Hogwarts because of the D.A.D.A. curse, despite the fact that he was an excellent teacher. It was discovered that he was a werewolf, despite the fact that the employees at the school had been assisting him in taking measures, and he decided to retire as a result.
He continued to make appearances throughout the remainder of the books in the series until the end, when he was killed in the Battle of Hogwarts. David Thewlis, whose voice is perhaps best known for his role as the Shame Wizard on Big Mouth, gave the performance of Remus Lupin.
After starring in the majority of the Harry Potter film
